Starting out on the search for a Port Melbourne cafe we came across Bella Cosi, which means so beautiful in Italian.
We now know why owner Marisa went for the name as this whole experience was so beautiful.
Specialising in authentic Italian and homestyle cooking you
are greeted with a warm smile and electric energy that all staff have as soon
as you walk in.
The space is certainly cosy, this adds to the relaxed atmosphere and the location is outstanding being on Beach Street, just metres from both the Port Melbourne Beach and Spirit Station Pier where the Melbourne to Tasmania ferry docks.
This Port Melbourne cafe is best experienced during the warmer months obviously with seating outside, overlooking the wonderful beach.
Anyway, the menu here has plenty to choose from and caters for any dietary requirements.
Mardi went for the open lamb souvlaki and Simon the Silence of the Lambs Burger.
Obviously, the lamb is the hero of these dishes and it didn’t disappoint, perfectly prepared as was the salad and chips.
We went in to enjoy good honest authentic cooking from a little known Port Melbourne cafe and that is exactly what we got, everything was excellent and couldn’t fault a thing!
This isn’t that upmarket restaurant in that you must dress up and the meals are going to cost you an arm and a leg, it also isn’t “just a pub meal” either. It has that beautiful blend and one thing that was evident is you certainly get good value for money here.
These guys make the most of the location, which is absolutely stunning by the way as it's by the sea, they use only fresh seafood. The calamari looked mouth-watering, not the frozen type.
Owner Marisa takes pride in everything she does with this place and it really does show in the final product. The cakes on display all looked amazing however we couldn’t fit another bite in as the meals really were a good size. It is a definite next time we are there though because pastries are also something they are well known for.
Bella Cosi isn’t just a great Port Melbourne cafe destination to sit down and eat food because if you’re feeling energetic and want to learn some tips and tricks they also offer cooking classes on Wednesday evenings. More information on the classes can be seen on their website HERE.
We could go on and on about our visit there however definitely get in touch with these guys and don’t forget to tell them Melbourne Revealed sent you!
