MR reveals top 10 list of events on in Melbourne

There are always plenty of events on in Melbourne across a wide range of themes and industries, giving you a smorgasbord of fun and activities.

So we decided to give you a quick list of some of these across the months of the year.

With so many events on in Melbourne during each month you don’t really need to worry about when you are travelling to this great city because we’re sure you can find something that you will like doing.

Just to add the list we have compiled here is in no way all of the events and/or festivals that are on in Melbourne, there are A LOT more.

We will try and keep adding to these as we get around to seeing and doing more of these.

Melbourne is known for arts and culture and while this is certainly part of everyday living the festivals and events do a superb job and bringing everything together in one place.

If you’re a sports fan then Melbourne is going to have something for you. Melbourne is certainly the sporting capital of Australia when it comes to big events.

Whether it be the Melbourne Cup Carnival to Australian Open tennis to actually getting involved in some activity with Run Melbourne, the city certainly has a lot of boxes ticked.

Or if you are keen to participate and want to go even further and your an experienced runner why not compete in the Melbourne Marathon?

The beauty of having the below list is you will be able to find something that is right for you and your journey whether you’re a solo traveller to a large family.

Regarding our top 10 list, here are the reasons why we love them. Please note these aren’t in any particular order for events on in Melbourne.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of those events that I always wanted to see and it just doesn’t disappoint. There is such a great variety of comedians from Australia and around the globe.

The atmosphere around these shows are fantastic as well.

The Royal Melbourne Show has been running for 160 years and continues to dazzle huge crowds in September.

If you would like to get a look at some Aussie animals while your here without driving outside of Melbourne then this is the place to be.

If food and wine is more your thing then make sure you get to the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.

Actually food and wine doesn’t have to be your thing, this is simply an outstanding event that has been running since 1993.

Chinese New Year is definitely one of our favourites each year and because there are events in different suburbs you get something different each time and you can have a look at various sites because they are on at different times.

As the weather starts to get really warm in January the sports action gets even hotter with the Australian Open tennis.

You don’t always get to watch the best tennis players on earth compete in a grand slam so take the opportunity while your here.

You don’t have to buy an expensive ticket to centre court to enjoy the open either as there is a wonderful atmosphere right around the event and plenty to do as well, particularly for the kids.

The Mind Body Spirit Festival is held biannually and the next event will be held on June 9-10, 2019.

There are over 200 exhibitors that attend the event. What we love about this event is you don’t have to be right into the mind, body, spirit thing to enjoy this. We certainly aren’t, however it was absolutely brilliant as an event.

It is ideally located at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre as well so you won’t need to travel far.

New Year's Eve in Melbourne is iconic and continues to get better each and every year.

The fireworks spectacular, both at 9.30pm and midnight is really what people go to see and it is well worth the time and effort needed.

If you do plan on going and being at the Yarra River then you will need to get in early for a decent spot as the crowds are huge.

It really is a race that stops a nation and is a staple on the events on in Melbourne calendar, the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

This is something that all Australians enjoy and if you’re lucky enough to get a ticket to the big event you will experience something truly memorable. When you're thinking of events on in Melbourne, this has to be right up there.

Even if you’re not into horse racing, it will give you a good excuse to dress up and head out to a function.

You don’t get to see motorsport so close to a CBD, but that’s exactly what the Australian F1 Grand Prix offers.

If this is your thing then make sure you get a taste of this action. The build up around Melbourne is electric as soon as the bollards come out, however nothing beats the race itself.

The Moomba Festival creates one of the greatest carnival atmospheres in Australia and hopefully you get to experience this wonderful event.

There are more than 1.3 million people that attend Moomba every year because there is literally something for everyone. That is the number one reason this has to be on the list, think events on in Melbourne? Think Moomba.

We love the skiing events and watch these every year and typically you can get a great spot to watch right on the river. We have also grabbed one of the free electric barbecues that are alongside the river so if that’s you plan ahead and get in nice and early as they are prime positions.
